Youth Leadership Group AYLUS Donates Care Packages to homeless

Streets of Hope San Diego wants to thank the Youth Leadership Volunteer Group AYLUS  for joining us in serving San Diego’s homeless on Monday night.

I always wanted our daughters to be kind, humble, helpful & compassionate towards others.

At Streets of Hope San Diego, we are always so grateful for parents who encourage their children to think of others and especially the homeless in San Diego. This last Monday Terry encouraged her daughters to think of the homeless downtown and reached out to us to see if they could make toiletry care packages, drop them off and have us pass them out to homeless.  Both Kayla & Alyssa’s and Terry (their mom) put together some amazing care packages that included water, socks, toothbrush and most importantly an encouraging note.  Kayla is 13 & just started High School and Alyssa is 10 & just started 5th grade in an elementary school and their personal encouraging notes were truly inspiring.

As we passed out the care packages, we came across Ramone who didn’t even see the packages among our food bags in our care but just randomly asked for a toiletry care package.  So of course we handed him one. We told Ramone how Kayla and Alyssa made these packages with someone like him in mind and asked him to read the encouraging note in the package.  He did and it read, “This package might not change the world, but we hope it changes your day for the better.”  After Ramone read this, he teared and asked one of our volunteers for a hug. Of course we hugged him. What a great night!

We asked Terry, to tell us what inspired her to reach out to us and encourage her family to think of their fellow San Diegans.  Here’s what she wrote:

I always wanted our daughters to be kind, humble, helpful & compassionate towards others. I want them to appreciate what they have & taught them to be always thankful for what they’re given in life. That’s the reason why I always sign us up for volunteer opportunities or donate whenever we can. They’ve been volunteering at Feeding San Diego for 5 years now. I was so happy when a friend of mine asked me if I want our girls to join a Youth Leadership Volunteer group called AYLUS with her daughter, I jumped on the opportunity knowing that the girls will be able to volunteer more often. I’m so glad I did!!!! 😃 💕 One of the best decision of my life!!!!

Thanks again to Kayla, Alyssa, and Terry for thinking of the homeless!
