Homeless Woman Tammy Helped Off The Streets

Meet Tammy: A Story of Strength, Grace, and Community

Four years ago, we met Tammy on the streets of San Diego. Life had not been kind to her. She had faced countless hardships—nights of uncertainty, repeated assaults, and even moments where everything she owned was taken from her. At one point, even her bicycle—her only form of transportation and a lifeline to stability—was stolen.

But what makes Tammy special isn’t just what she’s been through—it’s the way she continues to rise.

When we first met her, she carried a quiet strength and a soft smile that hid the pain of her journey. One especially difficult time, after she had been assaulted, we were able to offer her a few nights of safety in a hotel. It was a chance to rest, to breathe, and to simply be human again. It gave her a moment to feel like herself—and a glimpse of hope.

Thanks to the generosity of our Street’s Hope community, we replaced her stolen bike once.

More recently, the Streets of Hope helped Tammy off the streets. With the help of one of our faithful volunteers, she now has a custom-built daybed—a space that’s hers, created with care and intention. It’s not just a bed; it’s a symbol of belonging.

Tammy continues to be a regular at our Monday night gatherings. She’s a cherished part of the Street’s Hope family. What’s most incredible about her is her honesty—Tammy never pretends. She shares openly about her ups and downs, and her gratitude is as genuine as her spirit is strong.

Her story is still being written, but it’s no longer being written alone. She is surrounded by a community that sees her, loves her, and walks with her.

Tammy reminds us that healing doesn’t happen overnight. It happens in small acts of love, consistent presence, and the power of community. We’re honored to know her—and proud to be part of her story.
