TK and Kindergarten Community Montessori Charter Kids Help the Homeless

The Streets of Hope San Diego gives a special thanks to Primary Class (TK and Kindergarten) Community Montessori Charter for thinking of the homeless in San Diego and coming together to meet their needs.

“Their enthusiasm warmed my heart and demonstrated the true meaning of Christmas.”

We asked Sandy M., Educational Facilitator at Community Montessori to write up a short summary about how the kids decided to help. Sandy wrote:

“Recently, during our morning meeting in class, we revisited the concept of wants and needs and discovered that the students were fortunate to have their needs met.  The conversation went on to address those whose needs were not being met and what we could do about it.  The kindergarten population is amazing as they have the simplest, most sincere solutions!  They wanted to invite those in need to their homes, give them money, food, tents, clothes, toys, and so much more!  We narrowed it down to blankets to keep warm.  We all voted and it was unanimous!

They also wanted to bring their own money and to write cards with warm greetings. We spent the last week of school organizing the items and on the last day, counted the money, collected the cards and made a human chain to pass the blankets from the class to car! Their enthusiasm warmed my heart and demonstrated the true meaning of Christmas.”

Thanks Sandy and all you amazing kids for thinking about and serving San Diego’s homeless.
