Homeless Woman Gives Blanket to Homeless Man After Getting a Tent

…a great moment for us to see that human, God-inspired, kindness from one homeless person to another.

Giving the Homeless Tents in Downtown San Diego

Last week during the 4th of July we met Guy, Brett and Laura, all who are living on the streets, and they asked us if we could bless them with a tent. (We often get requests for socks, blankets, tents and more.) We asked them to join us next week and we would do our best to raise the money to buy them.

So tonight (the next week), they showed up like we asked, but the Streets of Hope volunteer who offered to drop off the tents fell sick with the flu and didn’t make it that evening. We felt horrible about it. Still, after we texted the volunteer to see if someone could come and get the tents, he got in his car, drove the store, got the tents and dropped them off! Amazing, so we were able to give Guy, Brett and Laura the tents that evening.

Deny Yourself to Give to the Homeless

As we all smiled for photos with them and the tents, one of our pastors who was attending this evening spoke about how the desire to deny yourself and to give is exactly what you are called to do as a Christian.  (Be sure to check out the photos of Guy, Brett and Laura below.)

Kindness from One Homeless Person to Another

But this is not the end of the story, Roy, an black homeless man, approached the entire group just after we gave away the tents and asked us if we had any blankets. No one in the group had any available, plus we had just passed out all the food. We had nothing to give him. That’s when Laura, who had a blanket draped around her neck, spoke up. She said, “I want to give him my blanket.” She unraveled the blanket from her neck and handed it to him. It was such a great moment for us to see that human, God-inspired, kindness from one homeless person to another.

What an amazing night!
