The De Portola Builder’s Club is a great example of a middle school hosting a homeless sock drive for the Streets of Hope’s homeless community downtown, and we’re so thankful!

Us at Builder’s Club were very happy for this successful drive, and plan to host more in the future.

Streets of Hope was humbled to have De Portola Middle School’s Builder’s Club host a sock drive to benefit our homeless neighbors in downtown San Diego. We got to hand out the socks while we were feeding the homeless downtown on Monday night. Here’s what they shared about their experience of hosting a sock drive:

“Socks. We use them so much in our daily lives. It’s worn with tennis shoes, boots, dress shoes, etc. This can easily make us take socks for granted, when not everybody has them. In fact, according to cbs.news, “It’s a proven fact that socks are one of the most needed but least donated items in shelters across the United States.” The people in our Builder’s Club at De Portola decided to hold a sock drive through January and February as an effort to help fix this problem. In the 3 weeks that our sock drive ran, our school donated an amazing 340 pairs of socks! Us at Builder’s Club were very happy for this successful drive, and plan to host more in the future.  Isn’t it absolutely astonishing what our community can do when we are all working together? Let this inspire you to do something good today. Whether it’s just picking up trash that someone threw on the floor or hosting a canned food drive at your school, you can help to make a difference!”

We encourage you to get involved in your community, however you can! Maybe you’re the one arranging the middle school sock drive, or maybe you’re one of the ones donating towards it.
